What's in your future?

Forecasting catalog demand is very important in your quest to fill customer needs.  Both over-buying or under-buying result in lower profits and create problems with cash flow, warehouse space, unsatisfied customer demands, etc.

Forecasting is often a difficult task and must be done accurately in order to maximize profits.  Terno has recently had a demonstration from Westam Pty Ltd and their forecasting package dubbed as C-Plan.  This package is a relatively low cost solution ($5,000 first user and $1,000 per additional) for planning and satisfying the needs of your catalogs.  This package is geared around maximizing your profitability and in-stock ratios for each catalog you drop.  This is done by grouping similar products by family trees and accounting for circulation, catalog space allocation, past performance, fulfillment costs, and returns.

Pasquale LaRocca, Marketing & Sales Manager at Terno & Associates, Inc. recently had an opportunity to review the product.  He states "this is more than a forecasting tool-- it is an excellent way to evaluate product mix and allocation for each catalog!"

More information and a demo is available at www.westamco.com.  Also, please feel free to contact a Terno analyst to discuss an integration into this system (Ph:  330.629.7004 or info@terno.com).

Is your maintenance paid up with IBM?

If your maintenance contract has lapsed with IBM, please read the information below carefully as IBM has recently changed their policies regarding support and maintenance.  If you need support with IBM products (Universe, SB+, SB Client, RedBack), a maintenance contract must be in place for you to receive assistance.  If your contract is not paid up, you will be required to "reinstate" it if you should need their services at a fee of 75% of the price of the product.  However, IBM is currently offering an Amnesty Program for end-users to reinstate their lapsed contracts before December 31, 2003 by simply purchasing a 1 year agreement (no penalties or fees).  If you are currently using Universe server edition and act before the end of the year, you only pay the $72 per user maintenance contract fee.  If you do not reinstate a maintenance contract and need support, you will have to pay $333.75 per user!

Maintenance contracts entitle you to IBM product support and help, version updates and the flexibility to change platforms.  Previously, changing platforms (i.e. Unix to Windows) would cost your company an additional 25% of the list price of a given product.  Platform changes are now free with paid maintenance.  Please call or email Terno for information related to your specific contract.

Thinking of upgrading your server?

With technology advancements increasing at an exponential pace, new hardware is becoming increasingly affordable.  A new server to power your TernoVelocity or QOP system is often 1/4 of the price you paid just a few years ago.  Today's servers are equipped with many more security and reliability features that one could have never imagined a few years ago.  Depending on your specific model, Terno recommends replacing servers within 5 years of the installation.  Call or email a Terno representative to discuss the specifics of your system.

Some common features found in newer servers:
*RAID- Redundant Array of Independent Disks.  This allows your data to be "striped" across multiple disks.
* Redundant Power Supplies
* Hot plug and redundant fans
